A CAMPUS ON THE MOVE

Mountain Shadows is committed to the inclusion of field trips as a valuable part of the curriculum. What is seen and experienced outside the classroom setting gives a different and equally important perspective to students about what they are learning and the world in general. Throughout the grades there are many field trips, both day and, for older students, overnight, that add depth and luster to daily studies.

As a part of the curricula of the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth grade classes, the planning and implementation of the history tours are integrated into disciplines of their respective programs. The intrinsic academic and social significance of these trips to each student and to the spirit of community within the class is immeasurable.

SIXTH GRADE NEW HAMPSHIRE HISTORY TOUR

Each spring, the Sixth grade departs on a tour of various parts of their home state, giving them the opportunity to see and experience in person much of what they have studied in the classroom during the year as well as some fun stops, such as the Moultonborough Country Store.

SEVENTH GRADE BOSTON HISTORY TOUR

The Seventh grade trip to Boston is a delightful balance of American history and current culture. The excitement of exploring this city where Patriot leaders formed a shadow revolutionary government and trained militias to prepare for armed conflict with the British troops occupying Boston back in 1775 is a perfect culmination of their yearlong history studies.

EIGHTH GRADE WASHINGTON, D.C., HISTORY TOUR

Walking all around the city center of Washington, D.C., in the spring, visiting the nation’s stunning and powerful monuments, exploring the varied and captivating museums, and seeing the seat of our government is a much-anticipated and treasured trip for our Eighth graders.
